I think I’m falling in love with heels, it’s genetic

I finally started watching the new season of Bridgerton. They decided to split the already tiny season of 8 episodes into two parts which I find absolutely ridiculous. It’s already insane that most shows nowadays only have 2-3 seasons with 6-12 episodes when we used to be consistently fed 5+ seasons with at least 18 episodes. I also feel like this new season of Bridgerton hasn’t hooked me the way the first two seasons and the prequel with the queen have. I saw a video on TikTok that mentioned the show got a new showrunner and somehow that’s visible in the third season which is surprising because normally, I don’t notice changes like that. Maybe because I saw the video before seeing the new season, it’s confirmation bias. Speaking of Tiktok, I deleted the app for the first time since getting it in early senior year of high school. I’ve wanted to delete it in the past but I was terrified of losing my drafts, as if videos with expired audios and horrible dances were necessary to hold onto. Not sure how long it will stay off my phone but it’s peaceful without it. I keep going to open the app and then when I realize I don’t have it, I redirect myself to what I was supposed to be doing. I’m interested to see if there’s an impactful difference on my screen time, although I will say I’ve been spending a lot more time on Pinterest lately, Tiktok deletion aside. I’ve been trying to find new hairstyles for when I inevitably need to re-braid my hair in a week-ish or so. I want to try something new but I get so anxious about switching my braiding styles so I’ll probably end up doing the same ginger braids I’ve done for the past couple of years. At some point, I’ll write a more researched post about the importance hair plays in a black woman’s life and how we are defined by our hair based on bullshit societal standards rooted in, to no one’s surprise, white supremacy. More on that later.

I’ve also been trying to find summer clothing inspiration for my wardrobe on Pinterest. Not necessarily new pieces, but styling for the clothes I already have. I had a fantastic spring Pinterest board but I’m deeply lacking inspiration for the summer. However, I’ve been really into online shoe shopping. Here are shoes I’m currently looking for:

-    White/Black Sneakers: I have the Adidas Forum Lows in white with the black accents and I really like them. I got them during a Black Friday sale junior year before abroad and they’ve taken an absolute beating since. White shoes have been a thing since forever but now I think I want to switch to black sneakers as being my new basic sneaker? I know this pair won’t get destroyed because they won’t have to fare frat basements and horrible, sticky bar conditions. Doing lots of research and possibly willing to invest in a good pair. I’ll keep y’all updated.

-    Mary Janes: I got a pair on ASOS either my freshman or sophomore year. They’ve done me well- they’re relatively comfortable and have a solid heel on them. However, they’re pretty scratched up. Not essential but wouldn’t mind a new pair.

-    Brown Boots: I’ve been looking for a pair of brown boots for a while. I thrifted my black boots over the summer but the sole came off one of the heels after my longest PBR bull ride at my final PBR night during senior week. My time was 46 seconds and a random guy who was trying, and failing, to chat me up in line took a picture of me on the bull. Very strange. Back to boots, I had a pair of my mom’s more Western-y looking brown boots freshman year but they fell apart because she had had them for like 15+ years and natural wear and tear got to them. So I would love a replacement. Riding boot-esque and a warmer brown. On the hunt, send any recommendations.

-    Kitten heels/Slingbacks: I’ve been watching Sex and the City (I’m towards the end of season 4) and while Carrie is by far my least favorite character on the show, her shoe game is unrivaled. I appreciate her style overall and could definitely recreate some of her outfits. SATC coupled with graduation/formal season where I had to wear heels 5 times over the course of two weeks, and I realized how hot I feel in them. Also, the pair I got from Nordstrom Rack are surprisingly comfortable and very cute. I would love a pair or two of casual little kitten heels or slingback heels to wear this summer so I can click-clack around and feel a little more put together.

My mom is obsessed with heels and is probably the only person ever who has a collection that could rival Carrie’s. I used to be in awe of how she could have so many heels but here I am, searching Vinted and Poshmark high and low for cheap kitten heels in my size. It was only a matter of time I fear. I am indeed my mother’s daughter.

In other news, I’ve been listening to the new Billie album and I’m so in love with it. I’m also finally starting my online French program and I hope to be significantly improved by the end of the summer.
