Weekly REPORT 6/10

It’s cherry season! While mangoes are my favorite fruit, cherry season is the most exciting season of the year. I’ve been watching Love Island USA, and so far, I’m pretty entertained! I think the cast is relatively solid, but excited for more people to be introduced and shake things up because thus far, it feels a little more like Friend Island. Love Island UK also started yesterday, yippee!

A short report this week because last week was spent mostly at work and editing my Nigeria vlog, which is now out and linked below. My Nigeria diary series will also be posted throughout this week (here is Diary 1 and Diary 2), giving some more snapshots of the trip! I’ll be posting more consistently on my YouTube too. Happy Tuesday!

READING

  1. How to cultivate intellectual humility: Opens with an interesting anecdote about these two Australians who died traveling across Australia, partly because of their refusal to accept insight from aboriginal guides within their group. Discusses the concept of collective intellectual humility and ways to cultivate a group culture that encourages intellectual humility such as anonymous balloting or embracing dissenting voices.

  2. We still need to defund and abolish the police: Discusses policing as a legalized form of class warfare. Utilizes the George Floyd murder as a central point to analyze the ways the police system is inherently unjust and uses systemic racism as the foundation for its practices. Talks about how police spend less than 4% of their time responding to violent crime, with the key word being responding, as they get to these crimes after they occur. Dissects the concept of safety, the contradictions behind police “keeping us safe” and breaks down just what it would mean to defund and abolish the police.

EATING

  1. Steak: My mom got bone-in ribeye at the grocery store, so obviously I had to try my hand at making a perfect medium rare steak. It was more on the medium side once I cut into it, and I slightly over salted it, but hey, it was my first ribeye rodeo! I’m sure with practice it’ll get better. I also made some chuck steak later in the week, and that was pretty damn good.

  2. Coastline Pizza: Towards the end of our Nigeria trip, JT, my mom and I were desperately craving a pizza and salad. Pizza because it’s an American comfort and a salad because we had barely had any vegetables in our two weeks of meals in Nigeria. We didn’t end up getting the salad at Coastline, but we did get the meatballs which was a fantastic decision. They were perfectly tender on a bed of delicious marinara sauce, and the little flatbread crostinis made the best vehicle for sauce. We all got different pizzas, and after trying bites of each other’s pizzas, we all decided that we liked our personal choices the best- a rarity! The service and atmosphere at Coastline were great as expected (I’ve been once before), my little frozen mocktail was minty and delicious. 10s all around.

PLAYING

  1. Motorheads on Prime: I didn’t know that this was based on a book, but I’m not surprised! Seems like all of the new shows are book adaptations. The casting for this show is great: everyone is attractive. I really like the storylines, and most of the characters are well developed by the end of the 10 episodes. I don’t know why there’s so much racing media as of the past few months (this show, Culpa Mia/My Fault: London, the new F1 movie) but I’m not mad at it! My favorite characters were Zac, Logan, Marcel and Caitlin. I also think the actor who played Harris did a phenomenal job at making the town bully someone you empathize with. If you like high school shows and/or racing, and are looking for a short but solid watch, Motorheads could be a great option.

OBSESSING

  1. Gray top from Paloma Wool: I’ve talked a lot about these elevated basic tops that have an intriguing detail, and this Paloma Wool top is the embodiment of that vision. So simple and yet so stunning.

  2. “Boy Crazy” by Kesha: The lyrics of the song, while not necessarily relatable, are so catchy that I can’t help but put this song on repeat. Driving? I’m playing this song. Need to get hype for the gym? I’m playing this song. Cleaning my room? Guess what, I’m playing “Boy Crazy”. Excited to see what the rest of her upcoming album will hold.

RECOMMENDING

  1. Disclosure b2b Mochakk: Great house set to get work done to!

TREATING

  1. Silver hoops from En Route: The post of my every-day silver hoops broke right before Nigeria, so it was about time to reorder a pair! En Route came in clutch as usual. These are sterling silver and I’m happy to add them into my earring rotation.
