Weekly REPORT 7/1

Short little report this week! Posting this as I’m watching Love Island UK to calm me down from tonight’s episode of Love Island USA. I don’t think I’ve ever disliked a cast more than this season of US, but alas, I continue to tune in so I can’t blame anyone but myself for continuing to watch.

Book review in the coming days if I actually finish The Art Thief before it’s due back. Be expecting a post sometime soon-ish about my men’s fashion week thoughts, things that have been bringing me joy lately, how I’m feeling about unemployment; we’ll see how vulnerable I get. Merry July!

READING

  1. Toro y Moi for Creative Independent: Helpful interview on how to start creative projects and the role constraint or scheduling can positively play in the creative process. The quote “Just make it exist. You can make it good later” has been kind of life changing.

  2. Andrew Scott and Josh O’Connor for Cultured Mag: Their friendship is so cute, and their playfully sarcastic and passive aggressive banter is super engaging to read. Very excited to see them both in the new Knives Out movie!

EATING

  1. Stonefire naan: This store-bought naan is so insanely good, and it’s really fun to make different random little combinations and then pair it with a buttery piece of naan. Last week, I made some delicious grilled chicken with chimichurri, and another night I made a white bean salad with an herby cucumber salad. Both were divine!

PLAYING

  1. Mary Beth Barone on Caleb Hearon’s “So True” podcast: This video is actually one of the funniest hours of anything I’ve ever watched. Mary Beth and Caleb have this insanely energetic chemistry. They both knew when to continue the bit, and when to slide into a more serious tone, and none of it felt awkward or rehearsed. I didn’t know much about Mary Beth as a comedian before this, and it was a good way to gauge her perspective on comedy and what she tries to accomplish in her sets. She’s incredibly fast with comebacks, a skill which I always admire.

OBSESSING

  1. Puma Speedcat Ballets: I don’t know why the hell I didn’t purchase these when they first came out. I think I kind of forgot about them, and now I’ve remembered, and I can’t stop thinking about them. I should focus on finding a good pair of black boots for Lolla first, but the speedcats are only $80 on ASOS and in stock in my size…

  2. Havaianas: I’ve never, ever been a flip flops girl, but these colors from Havaianas have tickled my fancy. How often I’d wear them; I’m not sure! But they’re fun to look at.

RECOMMENDING

  1. Bandsintown: This app notifies you of when artists you follow or listen to on Spotify are going on tour near you! Reminds you of when tickets will drop, when vinyls are coming out etc. and as someone who loves to keep track of live music events, I’m truly grateful for the reminders. It’s also good for finding random, smaller artists who might have inexpensive tickets for a show in your city.

TREATING

  1. Cocktail at Angel Share: The ambiance of this place was very cool! It kind of felt like an old brewery with these super high rounded ceilings that had a ton of windows. There was a cute little upstairs area, which is where Paris and I sat before there was some sort of magic show happening (?) We got scared and moved downstairs to the comfy couches in an area that felt very Love Island villa-esque. I got a raspberry gingersnap gin cocktail, and it was delish! It was also only $10 because it was happy hour- no complaints from me!
