Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T 7/21

I’ve discovered that you can watch the Olympics on Peacock, which I have, so I’m ecstatic about that. I finally finished Love Island USA and Sex and the City (spoilers ahead).

I’m so upset Jana and Kenny came in third. In the grand scheme of things, where you place in the top four doesn’t actually matter and doesn’t affect your relationship, but ugh, they deserved second. I’m so obsessed with them. However, I’m so happy for Serena and Kordell. Their journey was definitely the most cinematic and if not Jana and Kenny, I wanted it to be them.

I will not be watching the SATC movie or spinoff. I don’t have many final thoughts besides I love Samantha, but I hate that her last scene was Sam and Smith having sex. After everything they’ve been through, to have that be their final scene felt like taking a step backwards. Overall, each character had their high moments, and each had their shitty moments. It’s understandable why it’s a timeless yet somehow time-capsule show. Not sure I would rewatch, but I won’t say never.

READING

  1. Power of staying present: I've been having deep waves of intense nostalgia and even more intense bouts of daydreaming because the present feels stagnant. I've been describing it to friends as feeling static, but I think a more accurate description would be it feels like I'm static and everyone else is living at 2x speed. Trying to stay grounded in the present when it’s not fulfilling expectations is hard, but this article was a reminder that present discomfort is a blip on the way to greater things- similar sentiments I've received from my very wise friends as well.

  2. Take a walk and realize you are a tiny speck of dust on a floating rock: The title I just gave oversimplifies the message of the article but essentially, it discusses how in a fast-paced, short-term thinking society, it’s necessary to take a breath, slow down and realize that life is long. The article delves into longstorming which, in full transparency, I’m still not sure I understand, but what it has taught me is that I need to get outside more. Not just leaving my house but outside in nature or as nature-y as flat, concrete Houston can get.

  3. There’s nothing new about gender fluidity: I took a Sex and Gender in Greek and Roman Antiquity class my senior fall and it was so interesting. I honestly forgot I took the class until now, so this article was a nice reminder of what I already knew and I learned about gender fluidity outside of Greek and Roman cultures.

EATING

  1. Earl gray tea: I’ve been so-so on coffee recently, so earl gray tea has come in to semi-replace it as my daily source of caffeine. A little oat milk and a bit of honey- perfection.

  2. Chia seed smoothies: I'm trying to increase my protein intake so that I’m actually able to put on muscle at the gym. As someone who really only eats two meals a day and doesn’t have the appetite to add massive servings of protein to each meal, chia seeds in my smoothies have been a lovely way to up my protein but not feel like I’m overeating.

PLAYING

  1. Sabrina Carpenter Hot Ones: Her laugh is so contagious. The shots zoomed out where you can see her 6-inch platform heels are hysterical. She really is a real life Polly Pocket.

  2. Glastonbury vlog: Mentally, I’m still here.

  3. Cutting Room Floor: I just watched episode four on season five with Ana Andjelic who is a top brand strategist which, according to my LinkedIn headline, is one of the areas I’m interested in. It was nice to get more insight from someone who is well known in the fashion industry. She was super candid about the industry and loved hearing her takes on different rebrands, what has worked, what hasn’t and why.

OBSESSING

  1. Little cotton shorts I made: I posted incessantly about these on my Close Friends but wow, I’m so proud of myself. In reality, these are not complicated to make but I haven’t sewn anything in a while, and I had to make my own pattern for them. I forgot how rewarding it was to sew your own clothing and I’ve already started planning my next project!

  2. Dolce Vita shoes: Don’t ask me how but I’m just now discovering Dolce Vita. Fantastic sandal selection and abundance of kitten heels. I’ve been dreaming about this specific pair of sandals with the silver buckle. Love, love, love.

RECOMMENDING

  1. The Line of Beauty by Alan Hollinghurst: I’m ecstatic to announce I have finally finished my book! There were a few chapters in the middle that took me months to get through but that was because of intense procrastination and the fact that I didn’t like the nature of the relationship between the main character and his love interest at the time. I still highly, highly recommend it to anyone who loves Saltburn.

  2. Stolen Gin albums: As part of my album a day July goal, I recently stumbled upon a band called Stolen Gin. I listened to two of their albums, Something Sweet and No Tonic. There’s a lot of electric bass and it’s got this great, funky vibe. My favorite songs right now are Analie and If We Go Down. They’re actually on tour right now but unfortunately, not going anywhere nearby me.

TREATING

  1. Khaki mini skirt: I tried this skirt the first time I went to Bent Vintage but I was iffy on it so I didn’t pull the trigger. Upon a couple weeks to marinate, and a second try on, I decided to get the skirt and I’m so happy I did! As the true Leo I am, I’m already planning outfits for New York in 3 weeks and this skirt is definitely coming with me.
