Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T 9/24

90% of my thoughts since Saturday have been Jacob Elordi at the Bottega show, in case anyone was curious.

Austin was such a re-energizing trip and I’m so happy I went. More of a formal recap coming in the next couple of days (and potentially a YouTube video), but the more I visit Austin, the more I like it.

An Industry babble about Sunday’s episode: Robert Spearing is the babygirl blueprint, and I am so in love with his character. Seeing him shutdown Yasmin’s bullshit on the pier, “Whatever vulnerability you’re feeling right now, sit in it… We are beyond the game” was so beautifully delivered. He deserves the whole wide world, and Yasmin continues to dig herself into this impossible hole. Eric backstabbing Bill and using his illness to fuck with his head almost brought me to tears and genuinely made my stomach hurt. Bill obviously isn’t a good person and hasn’t always delivered on the promises he’s spouted to Eric but to use someone’s illness against them, privileged information that they entrusted to you as a friend, is so evil and something only Eric could do. And Harper. Each episode this season has somehow topped itself and I’m so intensely delighted that it has been renewed for a fourth season. Anxious to see what the finale has in store next week.

READING

  1. New generation of online culture curators: This article was affirming to read because while very, very, very small, I consider myself an online culture curator. I take notes about everything- places I’ve eaten, where I’m shopping, what I’m watching, what to do in a new city- and I’m always willing to share with anyone who asks. I consume so much media every day that it might be a little concerning but hey, I don’t have much else to fill my days with. It’s also why I love these weekly reports because they’re a curated collection of everything I’ve been consuming, loving, hating etc. in one place to share to my little corner of the internet.

  2. People’s thoughts on the debate: Very, very interesting to read to hear people’s opinions on the debate and their thought processes for voting. A lot of people had very stupid and/or concerning opinions, but vaguely amusing to see such a spectrum in one piece. However, reading some people’s thoughts did give a little hope, not necessarily for the future of our country. but just for the spirit of the American people in general.

  3. Brodie Townsend for GQ: He seems like a sweet guy. I don’t mind the styling for this shoot, but I wish the images weren’t so static. I’m also confused by the use of black and white for some of the photos. Nonetheless, it’s cool to learn more about Brodie, his random interests and how he got into acting. I think I might tune in for season 3 for Heartbreak High since it’s the last season and I’m very interested to see how they wrap it up.

EATING

  1. Assorted Italian sub from Home Slice: I would say this Italian sub beat the one I had at Anthony & Sons in NYC and rivals the one I had from Blue City Deli in St. Louis. The bread perfectly holds all the goodies and the sandwich is stuffed- it could easily be two meals. I highly, highly recommend.

  2. Cuantos Tacos: I got one cachete, one carnitas, and two suadero tacos from Cuantos Tacos which came highly recommended, and it lived up to the expectations! Simple tacos like these done well simply cannot be beat. It’s cute because the truck is set up in this little lawn space that has a couple other food trucks, benches, cute lights etc. and makes for a nice little picnic vibe.

  3. Bird Biscuit: This was probably the best biscuit sandwich I’ve ever had, and if you know me, you know I used to sing Blueprint’s biscuit sandwich praises for years (pre-frozen biscuits). The pesto was insane, the sausage was delicious, and the biscuit itself was a perfectly fluffy but filling base. Of course, there was a chipotle mayo you could order, and if there’s an ambiguous orange sauce on the menu- TRUST I’m going to order it. Drowned my sandwich in it and didn’t regret a bite.

  4. Frozen blueberries in my yogurt: Fresh blueberries can be really hit or miss so the extra frozen crunch in yogurt with granola cannot be beat.

PLAYING

  1. Remi Wolf’s Tiny Desk: I’m so sad I won’t be seeing her concert in Houston because I’ll be in California. Her energy is infectious, and her vocal abilities are so crazy. She’s got an insane amount of talent and I’m truly and deeply grateful for her music. The bossa nova inspired rendition of Sexy Villain was amazing and I’m happy she gave more insight on the song Motorcycle.

  2. Carrie Diaries: I’m sad there’s only two seasons of this show but I’ve really been enjoying it. Austin Butler is so smooth as Sebastien and the girl who plays Carrie embodies her future persona very well. I always felt like family dynamics weren’t ever discussed on SATC for any of the girls so it’s fun to get more background into why she is the way she is.

OBSESSING

  1. Sequin tops: I’ve been loving sequins on everything, bags especially, but sequin tank tops are also very easy to thrift. There’s this one Dutch girl that I follow on TikTok that has a fantastic collection of different silver and gold sequined tops that have really influenced me.

  2. Josh Heuston for Numéro: I’ve been following him since the first season of Heartbreak High and I’m so hyped that he’s in the Dune prequel. I didn’t know he was South Asian! It’s an easily digestible interview where you get to learn a little more about him, but I was mainly focused on the photography, for obvious reasons…

RECOMMENDING

  1. Troye Sivan for Song Exploder: I found this podcast because Omar Apollo posted that he had just done an episode, which I need to watch. On my drive home from Austin, I listened to Troye’s episode explaining how he made “One of Your Girls”, both talking about the production and the meaning behind it. Hearing him breakdown all of the intentional sound choices in this song was so cool and it got me interested in learning more about music theory. Real ones know that the music video for this song changed my life so learning more about the technical side of producing it was so fun for me. I’m excited to listen to Omar’s episode and other artists that I love who have episodes as well.

TREATING

  1. Thrifting: I did some yummy, little shopping this weekend. The sunglasses are lightly yellow-tinted with the green frames, and I love how big they are. This blue striped top immediately caught my eye at Lofi Vintage and fit like a glove. The black belt is from Austin Pets Alive and it was $5, and the dress is so stunning. I wish I had been able to find it before my birthday, because it would have been such a pretty birthday moment. I had a long dress in a very similar print that USPS lost in the mail, so it’s nice to get kind of a replacement. I think of all the actual stores I went to, not the markets, my favorites were Uptown Cheapskate and Vintage Hideout.
