Milan Fashion Week S/S25

Before I get into my MFW and Resort fashion week thoughts, here are some miscellaneous things.

  • I’m not sure when the shift in society occurred that normalized wearing headphones to the grocery store but I’m so grateful for it. It helped keep my sanity in French grocery stores abroad (I’m looking at you Carrefour), and everyone now just looks so peaceful during what I usually find an unnecessarily stressful errand.

  • I’ve added watching SKAM France to my French education. It sounds silly but the episodes have been really helpful to listen and take note of casual, conversational French.

  • My current song obsession from Billie’s album is The Greatest. I must see this album live- I could cry thinking about it.

  • There have now been two cases of bird flu in humans and one of them happened to be in Houston. There’s also been bird flu found in wastewater in Houston. There are whispers about this becoming a new epidemic and not to be an alarmist, but I’m terrified.

Resort S/S25 (also called Cruise)

I never look at Resort shows, which are essentially pre-spring shows, but on a whim, I decided to flip through them on Vogue. Since I mention a lot of shows, I’m just going to link the collections and not include pictures.

Resort

Louis Vuitton: Didn’t like. Felt like they were trying to be experimental and to me it just read ugly.

Dsquared2: 1st third was lumberjack- didn’t love. 2nd third was NY streetwear- it was fine but kind of boring. Last third reminded me of YSL. Overall, I’m just confused but Dsquared2 rarely disappoints so I’m holding out hope for S/S25.

Diesel: Usually a top favorite brand of mine but I have mixed feelings. Some felt very K*nye in B*lenciaga, there were some Dune-esque inspired looks and then a concerning camo x 2010s space leggings situation. I’m scared. A few looks were redeeming so we’ll see.

Versace: I love the matching sets and the floral prints don’t look cheap. Very wearable.

Stella Mccartney: Obsessed actually. Love the oversized silhouettes. Quite a few neutral looks for a S/S collection but I’m excited.

F/W24

Jacquemus: From what I know about the brand, Jacquemus doesn’t show on the typical fashion week schedule, so the collection just released was for F/W RTW 24 which most brands showed in January during fashion week. Few words for this collection other than stunning. Some interesting silhouettes, mostly simple designs but still breathtaking as always.

MFW S/S25

Dsquared2: The resort collection spooked me, but I truly loved this collection- crisis averted. Multiple of these looks have made it into my inspo board. Very dominatrix, bondage vibes for a lot of the collection which wasn’t seen in resort. Nothing earth-shattering but true to the Dsquared2 character and they get bonus points from me because they tagged their gorgeous models. Thanks Dean and Dan.

J.W.Anderson: In my eyes, Jonathan Anderson can do no wrong. Loved this collection as I have most previous. There were a few looks that felt juvenile, mostly because of color scheme and geometric design, but still felt the silhouettes and composition across the board were boundary pushing and innovative. I’m not in love with the pieces that are in collaboration with Guinness, but I’ll live.

Fendi: This collection surprised me with how much I loved it. Has some of my favorite things for men’s fashion: cropped, boxy silhouettes, well-made jackets, and intriguing layering. I think there could have been a few more risks in the color scheme but that’s me getting nitpicky.

Martine Rose: I wish I could find a video of this show somewhere but that’s the mysterious allure of Martine Rose I guess. In the Vogue photos of the collection, everyone is wearing these prosthetic noses- interested how they tie into the collection. As for clothes, overall, not my vibe but there are some very visually interesting pieces and I want to learn more about the inspiration behind the collection.

Gucci: The patterns in this collection are really fun and I love the greens and purples used. I HATE the chokers- really and truly not a fan. But overall, not bad!
