Weekly REPORT 1/13

After four days of diligently patterning, pinning and sewing a suede mini skirt, I finished the final product yesterday only to realize I hated the way it fit. Because I don’t have a zipper foot, and used a regular sewing foot, the side zipper stuck out in a weird way. I also didn’t love the overall look of a suede skirt in the A-line silhouette, despite my admiration for a similar piece on my fall Pinterest board. I’ve decided to add the skirt to a small, but growing, pile of clothes I’m going to attempt to sell at Pavement or Buffalo Exchange, and any rejects will head to the nearest Goodwill. It was a humbling moment to realize that I didn’t like the skirt I spent so much time on, but that’s life. Sometimes you work hard on something only to realize in the end, it no longer suits your interests.

I’ve been really into layering scents with my perfume, lotions, body oils etc. and even though you guys can’t smell me through the screen, just know I smell fucking fantastic.

READING

  1. Beyond Grievance from Jewish Currents: I’m still digesting this article, but it’s well written and asks a lot of interesting, provocative questions about processing grief within Jewish culture.

“At what point does asserting the problem’s unsolvability tip into not wanting it to be solved?

  2. Andrew Garfield for W Magazine: Hot and humble. I truly think we’d have a lovely time at lunch together and I need to watch We Live in Time because I missed it showing at theaters. Still thinking about his green suit from the Golden Globes…

  3. Nicholas Galitzine for W Magazine: It’s so sweet that he took up woodcarving after Andrew Garfield mentioned it in an interview. His guilty pleasure as Love Island UK, love that. He previously played rugby, also love that.

EATING

  1. Ramen from Ramen Tatsu-Ya: A meal shared with friends is always a lovely time, and this ramen I had last week with Theiija was no exception! Broth was delicious and I loved the width of the noodles.

  2. Brown sugar broiled grapefruit: Lila said my breakfast assortment (croissant with cream cheese, scrambled eggs and the grapefruit) is what a millionaire would eat for breakfast “in a good way” and I cackled. Hence, if you want to feel rich, eat this for brekkie, plus a green juice or kombucha of sorts, and you’re golden.

PLAYING

  1. Noah Beck Therapuss episode: I was giggling y’all. Noah is personable, what can I say? However, not to bash cheesy, low-budget movies, but him calling Sidelined: QB & Me a “film” was killing me.

  2. Drive to Survive on Netflix: I’m about to finish season 2 and things are heating up between Charles and Sebastien. I know this show is dramatized but honestly, it’s been a great way to catch up on major F1 events in the past five or so years, and get a glimpse into the dynamics within each team, between teammates etc.

OBSESSING

  1. Paloma Wool leather ballerina shoes: This color is delicious, and they fit perfectly into my “early 2000s reporter” style aesthetic. They are 210 euros which hurts, but also probably worth it?

  2. This outfit on Pinterest: I saved this outfit to my fall/winter outfit board with a quickness. I’ve now seen two or three outfits with these beautiful baby blue tights, and I’ve decided I need a pair in my life. The color combo of baby blue, gray and khaki is just so good- need to recreate asap.

RECOMMENDING

  1. Lavender candle: I’ve been into very simple but soothing candle scents as of late and this Frosted Lavender candle that I was gifted for Christmas has brought me much joy. It’s the little things!

  2. Entertaining review of Babygirl in The Atlantic: This review is hilarious and perfectly summed up all the shortcomings of the movie that I mentioned, but probably failed to thoroughly explain, in my review in this post. I don’t think it’s a terrible film, contrary to the writer’s belief, but Harris Dickinson’s performance saved it from dipping into that territory.

TREATING

  1. Suede jacket from the thrift: Only $16 for this beauty! I love the embroidery around the hem, on the collar etc. and it’s great quality.
