Weekly REPORT 2/17
In the past week or so, I’ve seen Dom Dolla, John Summit, discolines and Mau P all announce their residencies at various hotels or clubs. I didn’t realize that DJ residencies were such a big thing, and if it’s a newer development, I’m curious to know the external circumstances that are making these residencies such an attractive option for DJs specifically.
On an unrelated note, Chuck Bass in Gossip Girl season 5 episode 6 might be the most handsome any man has ever looked in the history of the world.
Another relatively short report! More to come about a book I just finished reading. I hope everyone discovers some new music and gets solid sleep this week! As always, sending love.
READING
Tr*mp’s plan to ethnically cleanse Gaza: I have a pet peeve that news outlets continue to say “tens of thousands” Palestinians have been murdered, when more in-depth and likely accurate research has said the number is closer to 100,000. It feels like intentional ignorance, but what else should I expect of American media outlets. This was a horrifying dive into Tr*mp’s plan to ethnically cleanse Gaza and build “Riviera” real estate there??? I can’t even begin to describe how fucking insane and despicable this is.
Album review of Inhaler’s Open Wide: As an Inhaler fan and a Houstonian, I found the title of this article quite funny. I agree with the sentiments expressed and I’m definitely a little disappointed by the album. Nevertheless, I’m still hyped to see them in March, and on St. Patty’s Day no less!
Bird flu update: As everyone knows, bird flu has become one of my anxiety fixations over the past few weeks, and this article did little to calm my nerves. Informative, but unfortunately the facts also fueled my fear.
EATING
Cold brew with vanilla cloud foam from Blacksmith: Between this coffee, the delicious biscuits and sweet staff, there’s no question why this is my favorite cafe in Houston.
PLAYING
Susielola’s Paris vlog: I was giggling at this entire video!! The dynamics and silliness of it all just reminds me of trips I’ve taken with friends, and just my friends in general, and it made me so happy! The editing, of course, is Godtier and I seriously can’t wait till I can figure out my laptop storage or get a new one so that I can really step into my Adobe Creative Suite editing bag. Also, it made me deeply Paris emo, which I’ve been feeling a lot lately, but in a good way.
In your dreams with Owen Thiele and Benito Skinner: Through this episode, I learned that Terrence and Benny have been dating for the past EIGHT YEARS? I’ve found them separately over the past six months through TikTok, and the fact that I’m just now learning they’re together is crazy. This episode felt like ten minutes long because they flew through 9 million topics, and I loved that.
Therapuss with Disco Lines & Jake Shane: They should go on a date, because their chemistry is kind of insane, which they acknowledged during the episode. I still can't get over the fact that this man’s legal name is Thadeus. On an unrelated note, I LOVE his laugh. I also thought that his DJ name was “discolines” and the fact that it’s “Disco Lines” I think is a misstep on his part. Anyways, it was great to hear him yearn over his exes, and we both have the same favorite color: light blue! I think he should never have children because he gave the classic male reasoning of “I just want to have mini-me’s running around” and y’all know how seriously I take people having kids when they don’t need to, but that’s a tangent for another time…
OBSESSING
“Crush” by AJ Tracey featuring Jorja Smith: Jorja Smith has always been and continues to be that girl. I feel like every year there’s a British rap song that momentarily takes over my life and this might be mine. I need to listen to more of AJ Tracey’s stuff because I really enjoyed this!
RECOMMENDING
Death of social media: Discusses the death of social media and proposes alternatives, not just in platforms but in foundational ideology changes that would need to occur to improve social media. Doesn’t come to any sort of conclusion, but a good article to get you thinking.
TREATING
Valentines’ Day nails: I got this beautiful, deep, cherry red color and I’m so happy with it! It took three tries to find the shade I was looking for, but my nail tech was committed, and I appreciate her for that.
