Weekly Report 2/3
Happy Black History Month! I’m still reeling from the Grammys yesterday: in shock over Billie not winning anything, still speechless from Doechii’s performance and elated for Beyoncé’s wins.
I’ve been having the strangest and creepiest nightmares lately (NARP city can attest). I really wish I had a dream interpreter for them, or I had made good on creating a pillow that somehow records your dreams so you can watch them back. I had that beautiful entrepreneurial idea in middle school, but I haven’t patented it or anything so feel free to bring it to fruition if you have the technological know-how.
My word of the day today is presage which means to give or be a sign for something happening in the future. It’s a more formal synonym of predict, and it also feels relevant because of the “omens” we’ve seen in our political landscape as of late. Hope everyone has good coffee this week and at least one day of sunshine!
READING
Harris Dickinson for Hollywood Reporter: Harris has been my personal “it” boy for the past couple of years, so this title is a little late to the party! Discusses how he came to work on Babygirl, a little bit about his relationship and his honesty around taking early roles just to continue to make a living as a working actor. Once again, I’m urging everyone to see Triangle of Sadness and A Muder at the End of the World if you haven’t already because they’re so weird and good, and Harris is fantastic in both. And Iron Claw, if you’re in the mood to bawl your eyes out. The photography and styling for this shoot are simple, but truthfully, the man doesn’t need much to shine.
The revival of the skateboarding community in the West Bank: In the face of genocide, Palestinians persist to find joy and their resilience is awe-inspiring. I’m happy that Dazed continues to highlight Palestinian stories and not let them go unheard.
EATING
Tuna melts: Will once sent me a quote that said something along the lines of “Tuna melts are so good when you don’t have some bitch in your ear telling you how nasty they are” and boy is that true. Pictured with my delicious white cheddar and chili oil tuna melt is a cherry pineapple smoothie and one of the best mangoes I’ve had in a while. Goated combination.
PLAYING
Harris Dickinson for British Vogue: Let the record state, I've never been an “Omg look at his hands” kind of fangirl for anyone, and this isn’t my dalliance into that territory. I will say, though, that I did observe in the multiple close up- shots of his hands turning the radio that he has very well-groomed nails. Love that for him! He gives such unserious advice, which I love.
Cynthia Erivo Chicken Shop Date: This was unexpectedly so cute. They have a great energy between them and were so giggly the whole time! The little Andrew x Amelia tease around 5:30 - I’m living off the crumbs of their nonexistent yet pending relationship.
Faye Webster Tiny Desk: She sounds like the most magical fairy princess to have ever lived. Her album Atlanta Millionaires Club was a soundtrack for my summer 2023, alongside Dominic Fike’s Sunburn, and it makes me so nostalgic anytime I hear a song from it.
OBSESSING
Serena’s photoshoot: In the words of N*cki M*naj, “I’m a fucking Black Barbie, pretty face, perfect body”. Serena looks out of this world stunning in this shoot, like genuinely unreal, and I’m so happy that Love Island has catapulted her to the level of stardom that she can be a part of creative shoots like this.
Red leather jacket from Desigual: I think this is the closest match I’ve seen to the perfect red leather jacket I’ve been imagining in my head for the past five years. It’s a nice deep shade of red, it has the Mandarin collar, and a double zip. However, it’s almost completely polyester which is really discouraging. Perhaps I’ll wait to see if it goes on sale? Decisions, decisions.
RECOMMENDING
NYX professional makeup eye primer: Y’all, I’ve always been a lover of eyeshadow, but I’ve never been able to consistently wear it because my eyelids get so oily, and the shadow wears off in a few hours. However, I’ve used this primer for the past week with various eye looks and it has been an absolute Godsend. I don’t know how I didn’t find out about this product earlier, but it makes the shadows last all day with minimal creasing or pigment fading. I’m ecstatic!!!
TREATING
Skirt from Anthropologie: I’ve purchased my first Anthro item! This black skirt was a return from one of my coworkers and I wasn’t expecting it to fit because it’s a size smaller than I usually am, but it fits very nicely. I love the pleating, and the leather waistband is so chic.
