Weekly REPORT 4/14

This month is flying by and all of the sudden it’s going to be May and I’m going to be on a 16 flight to Nigeria. Insanity. Now that my portfolio is done, I can move onto other pressing matters such as job applications (yuck), recommitting to learning French, and deciding between buying new makeup or a new black bag when I get paid this week. I also forgot that I digitally checked out The Talented Mr. Ripley and I have two days to attempt to finish it before I have to give it back. Challenge accepted? Happy Monday freaks (with love)!

READING

  1. How Governor Abb*tt’s immigration policies are shaping national legislation: Details the delusional psychosis of Governor Abb*tt’s ideology on immigration and how his insanity has bled through to national politics around immigration. Article discusses how the Texas governor has exercised, and in many cases abused, his power to manipulate the law to his will and bend other Texan Republicans to his agenda. The intricacies of the racist bullshit being perpetuated by the Republican governor concerning Texas’s immigration is actually wild, when laid out in detail in this article.

  2. Inhaler for Interview Magazine: Anytime Houston is mentioned in any article (where they took this interview from), I get giddy. Talks about touring, what they’ve learned from artists they opened for (Arctic Monkeys, Kings of Leon, Harry Styles) and what have been some of their favorite non-stage moments during tour.

  3. How Jeffrey Goldberg betrayed journalism: Discussing how Goldberg of The Atlantic left the Signal group chat with top presidential administration carelessly talking about bombing Yemen instead of staying in the chat to gather more information, essentially betraying the very point of journalism. I remember when the news about this leak initially dropped, I was completely in shock that he left the group so quickly, and that he also attempted to provide some level of protection around the content when he posted his “expose” (he has now released unredacted screenshots of the messages which are being The Atlantic paywall).

  4. Women are smoking more weed than men: Women aged 19-30 are smoking more weed than men! Delves into the marketing around weed, how legislation has helped shift the gender dynamics around cannabis, and hypotheses around if men and women smoke for different reasons/how smoking affects their day-to-day. Includes photography of women lounging around smoking in their underwear or sleepwear, interesting read!

EATING

  1. Spinach pizza from Union Loafers: The roomies and I had the most delicious little dinner at Union Loafers as our final meal during alumni weekend last Saturday. I love a spinach pizza, and this one was no exception.

  2. Brunch at Herbies: We didn’t end up doing bottomless like originally planned, but brunch was still so good! We split two cinnamon rolls for the table, and I got a pancake with a scramble and potatoes. Didn’t love the potatoes but the pancake and scramble were fantastic, and I was positively surprised by the cinnamon roll (which usually lean too sweet for me). The experience gets -1 star because about 40 boys from Sig Chi were in the private room next to us yelling and bellowing and aggressively clapping for our entire brunch. The horrors persist but so do we.

PLAYING

  1. Season 6, episode 1 of Carlos’s “Don’t Blink” series: I love Carlos’s “Don't Blink” series because the videos are simple, but well edited and engaging. Obviously, it’s easy to have good content when you’re an F1 driver, but Carlos has so much happening outside of racing, especially now that he’s at Williams and has more brand partnerships. Rooting for him always.

  2. Role Model on Q with Tom Power: I love men being emotionally vulnerable. That’s all I have to say. Love Tucker (as we know), obsessed with the album (as we know) and happy that he’s reaching new levels of success.

  3. “Living Abroad ‘like’ the locals” from Everything I Know About podcast: Really interesting and nuanced dive into the conversation around gentrification, expats, living abroad, ethical tourism, how COVID affected these dynamics and more. There are parts of the discussion that revolved around the language used to describe “migrants” vs “expats” and other diction-centered conversations that I found especially interesting. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

OBSESSING

  1. Belle the label midi skirt: This is everything I love in a skirt- slouchy, some sort of ruching and/or asymmetry, comfortable fabric etc. I want this in 9 million colors. I have a great pea green fabric that I’d love to make a skirt like this out of, but I’m not sure how to go about making my pattern… Plotting.

RECOMMENDING

  1. Dom Dolla Drumsheds set: Counting down the days until I see him live at Lolla!! Amazing set to have on while doing work and occasionally have a little boogie.

  2. The Pitt on Max: I would like to thank Audrey and Taryn for influencing me to watch this show. I’m not usually a huge medical drama person, but holy shit this show hooks you immediately. Great character building, exciting (and stressful) medical story lines, and characters you love to love or love to hate. I think Dana, Whitaker and Abbott were my favorite characters, but I do have a soft spot for Langdon (I just love people with a cleft chin/chin dimple, don’t ask). The finale was super emotional, and I’m oh so excited for the next season.

TREATING

  1. Chocolate croissant and cranberry pecan scone from Angela’s Oven: Delicious little treats that only cost me $7 total! In this economy, that’s a steal (and cheaper than I’ve spent on some singular matchas).
