Weekly REPORT 6/24
Sunday night’s Love Island episode made me want to hurl my laptop across the room, so I’ve been self-soothing with YouTube vlogs, reading and watching the OG Love Island (UK, obviously). Trying to apartment hunt for an NYC apartment while not being in NYC is a rough journey that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. Book review coming later this week! I truly need to get into a better routine and start working on all these random personal projects I’ve been putting off.
If you want to know what I’ll be wearing this summer, what some summer fashion trends are, or what pieces I gravitate towards during the summer heat, you’re in luck! New YouTube video on fashion I’m loving for this summer is out below. Like, subscribe, comment- all the delicious things. Off to get my shit together! xoxo
READING
Upstairs Neighbors for Dazed: I’m so proud of them for building the Upstairs Neighbors podcast into what it is! I found them pretty early on and to see them get a Dazed interview now is so heartwarming. For anyone who isn’t familiar with them, even though I’ve recommended different episodes a million times, they talk about pop culture, mental health and their personal lives through funny anecdotes and bits that have genuinely made me wheeze because I was laughing so hard. They advocate for issues they believe in and just have such a supportive energy. Endlessly proud to be a neighbor and I wish the world for them.
Chappell interviewing SZA for Interview: SZA is such a beautifully strange person. She talks a lot about her spirituality and how it guided her through her career. Chappell also asks great questions about SZA’s natural curiosity and her beliefs in magic. SZA shares some really funny tidbits about her detective tendencies as a child. I feel like both of their outward celebrity personas are very similar in a way that I can’t properly articulate, so the pairing made sense to me. Also, the styling is fun!
North Carolina “Straight Up” for i-D: I think North Carolina was a solid choice to do their next “Straight Up” location. When most people think North Carolina, they think rich conservatives or deep country, so glad i-D used this series to highlight a diverse group of perspectives and showcase what they’re wearing! Although I selfishly would love for them to come to Houston, so I could possibly get featured, I’d be curious to see the type of content and characters they would meet in Dallas. I also thought it was cute that almost everyone mentioned the outdoors as part of their advice for people visiting or what they love about North Carolina.
EATING
Pineapple basil lemonade from Tenfold: I’m pro basil in any fruity drink, so this was automatically a yes!
Bakery treats from Jane the Lion Bakehouse: Shoutout to TikTok for putting this place on my radar. The first item was a spicy peach pie with a coffee drizzle? And the second item as a biscuit with jam in the center. I think between the two, the biscuit was my favorite. It was on the doughier side which I don’t mind and texturally it was a 10. The apple pie was still good! I think I would’ve liked a more “spice” flavor from it, but still delish, and I want to go back and try some more stuff.
PLAYING
We Were Liars on Prime: I finished the book the day the show came out, which is just divine timing if you ask me. Book review will be up later this week! I think the show deviated from the book a couple too many times for my liking and I found the performances from the actors who played Kady and Penny to be unconvincing throughout most of the show. I also found the pacing and dialogue awkward and painfully juvenile at points. I thought the book was okay, so I didn’t necessarily have high expectations for the show. Joseph Zada and David Morse as Johnny and Harris, however, were absolute stars. Joseph’s performance specifically made me really excited to see him take on the role as young Haymitch in the upcoming Hunger Games movie.
OBSESSING
Tops from DeMode Mode: I’m in love with these tops. Faux layered pieces! I’ve said it before; I’ll say it again- they are the moment! The taupe and gray one is sold out in my size which is making me really sad, but the navy halter tank is still in stock; I’m plotting.
RECOMMENDING
Daughterofahoarder’s latest London vlog: I love a good vlog, especially when it takes place in London or Paris! Ruby went to a Pitbull concert, saw Keinemusik and other fun things. Loving her content a lot recently.
Laini Ozark’s video comparing eBay, Poshmark and ThredUp: As someone who has really gotten into online thrifting in the last few months, this video was so helpful to show what $100 could get you at each of these online thrifting platforms. She also talks about which platforms she thinks has the best search engine, and how to use each one to best suit your thrifting needs.
TREATING
Karma from Lush: I had this perfume in 2023 and the first half of last year, and I forgot how DELICIOUS it was! It’s patchouli, orange, pine, lemongrass etc., and the smell lasts so long. Now I’m on the hunt for a body oil that will pair well with it.
