Weekly REPORT 7/14
My first report on my new laptop, yay! Being extremely careful with this bad boy because it cost way more than anyone should ever pay for a computer, but grateful nonetheless. It’s a Mac, which I didn’t have before, so the learning curve has been a little steep but slowly working through it. I’m also happy because now I can get back to editing my YouTube videos and consistently pumping out content. Going to New York this weekend, which I’m very excited about, and my report will (hopefully) be on time next week so it’ll include all of my little New York moments!
This report is on the longer side since I didn’t post one last week. Book review for Evenings and Weekends will be out tomorrow. Spoiler alert: it’s probably my favorite book I’ve ever read. Happy Monday lovelies and happy reading!
READING
Joseph Zada for Flaunt: He’s an Arsenal fan, yippee! Loved the Dior and D&G looks they put him in. He just seems like a sweet boy! Excited to see him in East of Eden and Sunrise on the Reaping.
The state of trans healthcare: Discusses the dire situation of trans healthcare in the US, especially as it relates to kids because of Tr*mp administration’s demonization of trans people as reinforced by the bullshit “Big Beautiful Bill”. I think particularly with children, American culture doesn’t see kids as full, living beings that can advocate for themselves, which is why media coverage on the left concerning trans kids’ healthcare always centers the parents, rather than the kids themselves.
Arsenal’s questionable handling of Thomas Partey’s accusations: Comprehensive article discussing Arsenal player Thomas Partey’s rape charges and the club’s mishandling of the situation concerning the allegations. I completely think that Arsenal should’ve suspended him until the case was over, and I think the way they’ve handled it (discussing contract negotiations this April with the ongoing investigation, brushing over the allegations in public statements etc.) is really disappointing.
Southern ocean current reversal underscores the dire state of our climate crisis: Oh, just catastrophically horrific news about a Southern ocean current reversing for the first time ever in recorded history, underscoring how dire the climate crisis is! Scientists are predicting the reversal of this current will increase global temperatures, cause a mini-ice age in Europe and double the amount of CO2 in our atmosphere. It’s one of those things that just has me so stunned that it’s hard to fully process, but like wow are we screwed.
EATING
Tahini: I don’t know why I thought tahini had a taste more similar to hummus, but when I tried it, I was immediately shocked by how much it tasted like peanut butter. Anyways, I used it in a greek yogurt, dill sort of dip alongside my chicken, rice, cucumbers, tomatoes and homemade pickled onions, and it was delicious! I also realized that tahini is used to make hummus, which is probably why I associated the two.
PLAYING
Damson Idris on Amelia’s Chicken Shop Date: This is by far one of the best and most flirty episodes of Chicken Shop Date to date. I knew Damson was suave, but holy shit, he’s so charming in this interview that it’s almost distracting. Everything he said or did felt intentionally flirty but not in an uncomfortable or overly forward way. He’s just the perfect amount of sarcastic and witty. Even though I despise Brad Pitt, I might give in and see F1 just to support Damson. Definitely will be rewatching this episode.
OBSESSING
Weekday tops: I have such distinct memories of walking into a Weekday store that was a 10 minute walk from my apartment in Paris on the way into the Marais. It was always a little messy, but the workers were super cool and they always had a few fun pieces to try on. It’s a fast fashion store, so the chance I pull the trigger on any of these tops is pretty unlikely, but in the vein of elevated basics, these are fantastic. I especially love the hooded top, and if I found a specific kind of black fabric I loved, I would definitely make it for myself.
RECOMMENDING
Presley Reiger’s EP SPILL: This EP has been on repeat! Kind of Chase Atlantic, kind of old Neighbourhood- just vibey and fun. Presley opened for Tate McRae last year, and I think in the next year or so he’s really going to have a big moment! Current faves off the EP are “i love you etc.” and “New Religion”.
TREATING
Supergoop! unseen sunscreen: I got a sample size of this sunscreen from work two summers ago, and I loved it, so when Anthro was having a sale, I knew I wanted to cash in. It’s super lightweight, no cast on my dark skin and sits well under makeup. Loving and definitely recommend!
Cole Haan boots off eBay: These boots are supposed to come in sometime this week. I’ve been on the hunt for a good pair of secondhand black boots for Lollapalooza and just life in general. I’m really hoping they’ll be comfortable because they were one of the few black pairs that had the calf measurements listed in the descriptions, which I find crucial. If they don’t work out, I’ll have to return them and opt out for a brown pair of secondhand boots, which will still be lovely, but they definitely don’t match my Lolla outfits as well.
