Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T 9/12

It’s been a rough few weeks for me. In the lighter moments, I’ve been doing a bit of screenshot folder spring cleaning and listening to a lot of new music. NYFW just ended and I have a few thoughts so more on that soon. An update on my quest for a black tank top: why are quality spaghetti strap tank tops that are inexpensive so hard to find? Taking things day by day and sending my love!

READING

  1. Harry Lawtey for Interview: Ugh Harry, my sweet prince (not from the royal family). We all know my soft spot for dearest Rob in Industry, despite his frustrating naivete that proves to be less endearing and more detrimental in each episode. The rat story made me laugh, what an unfortunate coincidence. I like the styling for this shoot, clean and simple but elevated.

  2. Harry Lawtey for Vogue: I told y’all last week this would be an Industry filled report. Just a really enjoyable interview to learn more about Rob as a character and the way the writers work. Harry seems to be someone who takes sincere pride in his work and I, like him, am grateful the show is getting more attention because it truly deserves it. It was passively mentioned that he didn’t watch the newest episode in the Interview Magazine piece with Myha’la but this interview confirming he hasn’t seen any of Industry, because he doesn’t watch any of his own stuff was shocking. He’s definitely not the first of actors I’ve heard do this, but it always just shocks me because I’m like, you performed brilliantly, and you don’t want to see it back? What a level of self-restraint- perhaps it’s the Leo in me. Sidenote, his hair is fantastically styled in this interview. It’s magical and almost has a life of its own- wish it was this length for the show!

  3. Drew Starkey’s convo with Omar Apollo for Interview: They bounced off of each really well in this and it was nice to learn a little more about the film because I feel like even with film festival season, I still don’t know much about the content of the film other than broad overviews and this allegedly being Drew’s “moment.” I can’t believe he dropped 30 pounds for this film. I will say, I hate the styling for this interview. I just don’t understand it. It doesn’t fit with what I’ve previously seen of Drew’s personal style and definitely doesn’t match the tone of the movie, so I’m just lost.

EATING

  1. Chicken salad: Simple and in my opinion, quintessentially summer. I didn’t have celery, but I did just fine without. The key is throwing a little bit of dijon mustard in there!

PLAYING

  1. Beabadoobee for Apple Music: Such an enjoyable listen! I feel like Bea is actually really vulnerable in this and talks in detail about the context in which this album was made, confirming and denying certain rumors I’ve seen floating about the internet. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to see her live but I’m excited to see videos from the tour.

  2. Dog Park “Breaking in Brooklyn” EP: Another great little indie-rock band, courtesy of Tiktok! A five song EP that I really enjoyed. I feel like they would have fun energy live.

  3. How to have sex: In all honesty, this movie was really triggering and angering. I had to split it into two days to get through it. It was moving, and achingly painful and beautifully shot and one of those movies you only really need to see once. Mia Mckenna-Bruce is absolutely brilliant in this.

OBSESSING

  1. Daisy Edgar Jones Tiff dress: Before we get into this gorgeous dress, can we just discuss how she’s collecting hot co-stars like infinity stones? Paul Mescal, Andrew Garfield, Harris Dickinson and now Jacob Elordi? Her agent really does love her. Her now being styled by Dani Michelle has been a great partnership because at every event, carpet, interview etc. recently, Daisy’s styling has been impeccable- this Tiff styling is no different.

  2. Doechii’s PAPER shoot: Personally, I wouldn’t say that PAPER consistently provides groundbreaking, boundary-pushing covers but their shoot with Doechii has been living rent free in my head. I think it also helps that Doechii is a super creative person herself and always seems to have a distinct vision for the content she puts out, so I think that coupled with the great styling and creative team for this shoot is what made it such a success. I’m yet to listen to her new album, but I’m excited to give it a listen because I’ve heard fantastic things. In general, Doechii has been serving look after look after look and she needs more flowers for not only her music, but her fashion taste as well.

RECOMMENDING

  1. The anomaly by Herve Lé Tellier: This book was a rollercoaster. I really enjoyed it because there are like fifteen different points of view that you bounce between and it becomes this strange, and slightly stressful, juggling game that you get roped into as a reader. Halfway through, there’s a massive science fiction twist that helps to contextualize the chaos of the first half and the last third is this painful exploration that dissects our current worldview and how polarizing our society is. It provides commentary on religion, general beliefs and questions the purpose of life. It’s delightfully creative and heartbreaking and I would read it again.

TREATING

  1. Camille Rose hair care products: If anyone is on black hair care Tiktok, then you’re aware of the situation with Mielle. I was a huge Mielle user and while my hair was not experiencing mass shedding as a result of the products, I decided it might be a good time to switch up the products since they are super high protein and not the best choice for my low-porosity hair. It’s always hard to tell how hair care products are working with, or against, my hair because I often have braids, but I just took down my braids, so we’ll see how my new Camille Rose products fare.
