WIWTF* (what I’m wearing this “fall”)

I have an asterisk in the title because fall is essentially nonexistent here in Texas. It’s so frustrating to try and pin down my fall/winter wardrobe vision when it’s still 70 degrees outside in November. Global warming is desperately alarming for a multitude of reasons, but one of the more miscellaneous downsides is a Southerner’s increasing inability to really get into a cozy, fall mood and come up with fun layering outfits. Essentially, this is a very hypothetical list because only God knows if it will get cool enough outside to ever whip out my leather jacket here.

My fall clothing wish list

Accessories I’m looking for include fun belts, colorful tights, a slouchy bag in either leather or suede, and pieces with excessive studs or grommets. Skinnier pant silhouettes and interesting, lightweight jackets are in for me. As for my fall color palette, I’m loving all light blue, navy, army green, butter yellow and all shades of gray!!

  1. Dark wash selvedge denim jeans: I mentioned this in a weekly REPORT a couple weeks ago, but this is number one on my wish list thanks to a picture Katarina Krebbs posted on her TikTok that I can’t stop thinking about. This won’t be a cheap find, but I’m definitely willing to invest- Alexa play “The Perfect Pair” by beabadoobee.

  2. Graphic long sleeves: After thrifting the coolest graphic long sleeve in San Francisco, I’m determined to pick up a couple more. Think like the fun, faded graphics of a high school boys’ closet.

  3. Dainty white blouse: This was on my summer wish list and is carrying over into fall/winter. I have such a particular image of this in my head that I might just have to make it, but I have only sewn sleeves a couple times in my life (let alone puff sleeves), so this would be a major endeavor to take on. Perhaps it’s worth it.

  4. Tiered, plaid maxi skirt: I actually don’t want to buy this item, but instead make it. I have such a specific vision in my head of a structured, tiered maxi skirt with lace trim and I don’t think I’ll find anything like it in real life! The hunt for the right fabric will be lengthy I’m sure, and I forgot how to sew in a zipper, but this will be a fun challenge to keep myself busy.

  5. Vintage DKNY sweaters: This is so specific, but I love DKNY’s vintage sweaters. They all look super thick and cozy, and it’s one of the few examples of a larger logo that I don’t mind. I found the coolest black DKNY sweater with this hot pink, diagonal zipper going across the neck and the brand logo was in hot pink as well. Unfortunately, it got snatched up on Depop before I could make my move, but I have hope something cooler is out there.

My fall shoes wish list:

  1. Brown riding boots: Western adjacent and need to look worn in

  2. Comfy black boots: I have my one pair of square-toed black boots and boy have they done me well, but I want a pair with a slightly lower heel and different look

  3. Fun colored sneakers: Really into shades of blue, pink and red for sneakers

  4. Unique Mary Janes/loafers/flats: I don’t have the luxury of finding cute, unique shoes like this at the thrift because I’m a size 10.5/11 so I think this will have to be more of an investment piece

  5. Slippers of some sort: I need my own version of Boston Birkenstocks, something casual, easy to wear and in a shade of brown, gray or black

Combinations I want to wear:

A) Cardigans and low-rise jeans with skinny belts

B) Graphic long sleeves with midi skirts and statement jackets

C) Stripes on stripes, stripes on plaid, plaid in fun ways

D) Layering basics on top of basics
