Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T 11/18
The last two weeks have actually provided a little hope on the job front, but I don’t want to speak on anything until all the pieces are in place. I’ve been watching a ton of Paris vlogs and boy oh boy do I miss that city badly. I’m being painfully ghosted by all the French families I’ve reached out to au pair for, but my passion to learn the language persists! If anyone is in need of a trashy reality tv escape, the current season of Love Island Australia is truly delivering on that front- indulge with me.
Also, how the hell is Thanksgiving next week? I swear the election was two days ago. Time flies when the world is collapsing, I suppose.
READING
Democratic leadership has failed us all: If you read any breakdown of the election, Kamala’s campaign, the future of America etc. READ THIS. I recommended it in yesterday’s post, but I’m bringing it up again because I think it’s the most comprehensive piece about the election I’ve seen.
Captagon smuggling in the Middle East: I actually have no idea why I decided to read this extremely long article. I was just scrolling the New Yorker, saw the title and thought, why not? This talks about the captagon crisis in the Middle East, specifically Saudi Arabia and Jordan, how Syria has propelled the captagon smuggling industry and how production moved from Germany to Bulgaria and is now taking over the Middle East.
Pop girls’ maximalism: Reading this just made me smile because it just reminds me while this year has been horrible in many different areas, it’s been a fucking fantastic year for music.
adidas Originals x Boiler Room: Adidas Originals is really solidifying its niche and it’s exciting to see them partner with Boiler Room to launch this community-centered space. Interested to see if small LA-native artists feel supported by this venture and how this impacts the community, or if it does at all.
EATING
Cape Cod potato chips: I randomly remembered that Cape Cod potato chips existed last week before my mom went to Costco. I rarely eat chips but when I do, Cape Cod is the best choice in my humble opinion. So simple and so delicious- why mess with perfection?
PLAYING
Remi Wolf explaining “Soup” for Song Exploder on Spotify: I loved hearing the lyrical breakdown of this song because I was definitely missing some of the thematic content even though I’ve listened to this song a million times. It’s very cool to learn she was using tools utilized in 80s music to contribute to the authentic 80s sound.
Susielola, Daughter of a hoarder YouTube video collabs: It’s such a joy that two of my favorite London fashion girlies and best friends! This concept of joint videos on each channel is such a good way to promote their content, especially because they target the same niche.
Omar Apollo for Q with Tom Power: 50% of this interview is him being vulnerable and genuine about the makings of this album, his heritage and how it has impacted his career and business ventures. The other 50% is him flirting with Tom and them having this insane chemistry and banter.
OBSESSING
Fait Par Foutch: I saw a girl on Tiktok wearing the first dress for a college formal and immediately went to their website. As expected, the prices are painful, but these four pieces are so stunning.
Josh Hueston for Schön Magazine: He’s wearing Loewe and looking gorgeous as usual in this shoot and it’s his birthday today (Scorpio king), so it felt even more fitting to include this shoot in today’s weekly report. I watched the first episode of Dune Prophecy yesterday (which he’s in, obviously) and while it was definitely exposition heavy and a little confusing, it was very entertaining.
RECOMMENDING
Upstairs Neighbors podcast episode 38: This was such a good episode discussing grief, the impact of social media on our concept of time and staying authentic when it comes to determining what success looks like. I was tearing up the first ten minutes and giggling the second half- this podcast continues to be one of my favorites!
TREATING
Striped shirt: I got this green striped men’s shirt on Saturday from the thrift store for $10. It was new with tags, which is so nice, and I love the slouchy fit that doesn’t swallow me but is still comfortable. I have a few pins on my fall Pinterest board of slouchy, striped long sleeves so I’m really happy to have found this!
