Come take a dive, the water’s fine!

I had an English teacher in 6th grade named Ms. Boyle who had big, long curly hair and insane outfits. The only other thing I remember from her class is that a paragraph can never end with only one word in the next line. I’m unsure of the exact term, a widow maybe? Somehow, I’ve never forgotten that rule of thumb.

There’s a myriad of thoughts pooling in my head right now.

1.      I’m signing up for the gym again. I’m honestly excited to get back into it, especially because I feel comfortable enough with my routine to try out new machines and incorporate different exercises. Praying this enthusiasm lasts.

2.      I love long YouTube videos. I like going to a theater to watch movies, but I’m someone who rarely watches movies at home because I find it hard to carve out 1-2 hours to dedicate. Will I watch three 45-minute episodes of a show back-to-back? Yes, but that’s different. I think movies feel daunting and the automatic “Next episode” feature for shows gets me every time. Despite my movie intolerance, I will gladly stay seated for an hour-long YouTube video. One of my favorite fashion influencers and YouTubers, Chloe Felopulos, posted an hour-long vlog about her trip to Peru and that was only part one. I think it’s refreshing because a lot of content on YouTube now is geared towards shorter attention spans so they’re 10-15 minutes, but there’s an old school charm to a lengthy YouTube video, I’m telling you.

3.      Love Island starts again Monday, and I couldn’t be more excited. I’ve watched (or kept up with on Instagram) every season except for 1 and 2. Season 10, the most recent one, was insane with Jess and Sammy winning, but it brought us Whitney and Lochan who I’m obsessed with. They also announced that they’re doing a second season of Love Island All Stars. I didn’t watch it, but I do now follow both Sophie and Josh who became a couple from that season. They seem like a really cute, jokey couple; they seem to actually have fun with each other. However, even with their storyline and the “Will they, won’t they” between Callum and Molly, the season didn’t seem lively enough to hold my interest. What Love Island should be focusing on is another season of Love Island Games. Now that was reality television. I was legitimately screaming during challenges, head between my knees, peaking between my fingers because I was so anxious. I think I even cried at one point. I was obsessed with Jack and Justine, so I was happy they won, although I fear they’re no longer together. Seriously though, LI needs to bring a season two of that and stat.

4.      After seeing edits on Tiktok, I started watching Maxton Hall on Prime. It’s only six episodes (grrrr) but it has been renewed for a second season! That’s the great thing about Prime; there’s less anxiety that they’ll cancel a good show compared to Netflix who suffers from “One and done” syndrome. There’s just something about foreign high school shows that hit so differently. I can’t think of any American high school shows that have captured my attention recently besides Never Have I Ever, which I started watching as a joke with my roommates abroad, but it kept us hooked. I finished Young Royals a couple weeks ago and earlier in the semester, I breezed through the second seasons of Heartbreak High and Heartstopper. I think after I finish Maxton Hall, I’m going to start Skam. I’ve heard about it for so long and I’m itching for more new characters. I should finish One Tree Hill or Teen Wolf which I started a while ago but oh well, they can keep waiting. Also with Love Island, who knows how much I’ll be watching a secondary show. Perhaps I shouldn’t get too ambitious.

5.      Watching Maxton Hall got me thinking about how fun of a job it would be to pick music for shows. Not serious shows, but more lighthearted, campy high school shows that are somewhat formulaic. Succession was a masterpiece in many areas, one of them being the score- that is a level of talent I simply don’t possess. But in these silly teeny bopper shows, I think I would be pretty decent at finding songs that fit the mood. A song came on during Maxton Hill episode 3 that I was like “Wow, this song really does fit the vibe of this scene.” Plus, I’m constantly listening to music so it would be fun to get paid for it. I wonder what resume experience you would need to get that job.

If anyone is curious, my French lessons are going swimmingly! I’ll be fluent-ish in no time.

Bisous, Faith.
