Weekly REPORT 3/3

A note on zippers: O-ring zippers should have been banned in 2017 and any jacket or sweater that has a zipper should be double zip because it automatically makes it cooler.

Listen, I don’t know a ton about how much control artists have over their music releases, in terms of marketing schedules before an album, but I dislike the trend of artists dropping multiple singles off of their album and then releasing the album nine million years later. Example, The Driver Era. Six singles off of their new album (isn’t that like half the album?) Obsession which comes out April 11th. That date is after they’ve already played 14 shows on their Obsession tour, I counted, and after their Houston date which is why I won’t be going. I also already saw them live, but that’s beside the point. I want two, maximum three singles from an artist before they give us the album, and I want the album to be released in a timely manner after these singles drop. Give us a taste to get us excited and then let us enjoy the body of work in its entirety. I’m also of the opinion that it’s more likely for too many pre-album singles to water down the storytelling of an album rather than drum up excitement. Leave us wanting more!

I’m also so over artists announcing tours before their new albums come out, but that’s a whole other discussion, and an issue I’d love to get to the bottom of. Why do I feel like Ticketmaster is somehow involved…

READING

  1. Ken Leung for HighSnobiety: I love Ken Leung as Eric in Industry, but to hear him dive deeper into what drives him and how he got into acting is a treat. I want to watch the movies he’s been in, because I don’t think I’ll ever really get into Lost, and I’m interested to see if there’s a difference in his approach in films vs series. Uncontrollably excited for season 4 of Industry, even though little Rob won’t be there.

  2. US Transit is Unacceptable by Current Affairs: I get on my soapbox about our country’s shitty public transportation network about once a month, but luckily this article was written, so now I can just reference it anytime I feel the rant itch oncoming! Also, the fact that the author is from Houston just makes it that much better because she knows just how sprawling this city is, and how much we’d benefit from a stronger, more efficient public transportation system.

“The ultimate goal, though, of high-speed transit and public transit generally is not for us to save time in order to grindset harder. The goal is for it to make our lives better.”

  3. Quenlin Blackwell for Interview Magazine: This was a great interview to learn more about Quen as a person, because I’ve known her as an Internet persona for so long, but I’ve always had limited context on her background. Pairing her with Rachel (Sennott) was smart and she asked fantastic questions. Excited to see Rachel’s upcoming show, which Quen stars in!

  4. Doechii for Dazed: SHE CANNOT LOSE!!! She’s been mentioned in my past four or so weekly reports, and for good reason. I think she is one celebrity that has consistently been in fantastic editorials, especially in the past year. Her inspiration found in Lady Gaga, mentioned in the interview, definitely comes across in her style and visionary process. She’s so transparent about her journey as an artist, such as how she’s documented herself or points where she didn’t like her art, and I always find motivating advice in her interviews.

EATING

  1. Pesto pasta with spinach: Once again, I’m in a lull of feeling food uninspired, so I’ve returned to the basics until I rifle through my saved recipe videos to save me. It’s meals like this that I don’t have to use my brain for, and there’s nothing better than a comforting, warm bowl of pasta after getting off work.

PLAYING

  1. Damon Dominique’s “What I’m actually doing when I say I’m working”: This was an insightful look into Damon’s work life, and how he organizes his entrepreneurial ideas and projects! Inspiring and entertaining, as always.

  2. Jonathan Anderson on Fashion Neurosis Podcast: I love the way he speaks. Not just his Irish accent, but his tone and pace are really relaxing. He’s one of my favorite designers so obviously this was a must watch! Learned more about his process for designing, collaborations he’s done and his work for both Challengers and Queer.

OBSESSING

  1. Jeans from EBDenim: All I want are a pair of true black, low rise, straight leg jeans, but you’d think I’m asking for the moon and stars. I ordered a pair from Bershka but didn’t realize they were high rise. This pair of EBDenim jeans has been living in my head, but they’re $265 so obviously not. But also, what are the alternatives? My research will continue.

RECOMMENDING

  1. Welcome to Chippendales on Hulu: I watched this show a month ago, but I forgot to include it in a report so here it is! Fast-paced drama miniseries about an Indian immigrant who sets out to create his own American empire as a male-strip club owner. Based on a true story, this series is gripping, emotionally turbulent and so well-acted. I didn’t even know it was based on a true story until the very last episode. Watched initially because I wanted to see more of Murray Bartlett (Armand in White Lotus, my beloved), but the story got me hooked immediately and Kamil Ali Nanjiani is fantastic. Deals with topics such as internalized racism and the facade of the American Dream, highly recommend.

TREATING

  1. Drinks at Truck Yard: I met up with my friend Lily and her friend Georgia before the Role Model concert at this bar in Eado for drinks! I got a Moscow Mule (3.5/5) and then a double Whiskey Sour (5/5, will never fail me). Super cute outdoor setup and the bar got its moniker from the food trucks that they have in the backyard. I got Mexican fries from a truck which were topped with chorizo, peppers, onions, cheese and some lovely green sauce. Surprisingly, they didn’t ruin my stomach!
