Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T 8/12
Leaving in two days! Some random thoughts for you on this fine Monday afternoon:
The Olympics’ closing ceremony has occurred, which means they are over, and I’m so sad. The handoff to Los Angeles was so dramatic, in true American fashion, and I loved it.
I recently saw Jayson Tatum in an ad for Coach jewelry. Basketball and fashion, specifically jewelers- it's happening everywhere, I’m telling y’all.
I watched Bikeriders on Peacock and am circling back to the press run interviews that I saved months ago. Austin Butler, you will always be famous to me. I don’t know if this is dumb to say, but I feel like movies are generally just getting more beautiful to watch. There were a few scenes in Bikeriders that writing or plot wise fell a little flat, but I wasn’t even that upset because the cinematography was gorgeous. I think the increase in use of film and intentional manipulation of film has definitely played a huge part. Whatever it is, I’m a fan.
Sorry to disappoint but there will be no REPORT next week! Back and better on the 26th.
READING
Coco & Clair Clair get drunk in the mall: As the title hints, this interview was literally them just getting cocktails at various restaurants in the mall and doing drunk cartwheels. Clair Clair loves to yap, and Coco is a woman of few words- what I believe is the secret to their fantastic musical marriage.
JaNa and Kenny interview: Kenny going to a Quaker school makes so much sense and provides illuminating context to why he is the way he is. They communicate so well for a couple that started on a game show. Jana wishing for someone exactly like him and Kenny coming in the next day is God’s destiny, no joke- obsessed with them to say the least.
Babe wake up, Jacob Elordi did a non-press related interview: First of all, let me just say that when I saw Interview post this article on their Instagram, I literally jumped. Jacob is always anti-press or interviews unless it’s the required press run for a movie, so this impromptu interview is a birthday treat especially for me, I just know it. Why are they actually mirroring a father-son relationship in this? It’s so precious. Jacob making fun of Eric for vaping is actually so funny, I can hear it in his voice. “The JUUL is gone and you’ve moved on to that obnoxious, fucking-” just automatically sounded Australian in my head. Doesn’t he smoke cigarettes? Anyways… I know Euphoria is dead in the water and season 2 was a bit of a shit show but to hear there was a scene not filmed that both Eric and Jacob still think about? Give it to me now. The last two lines of this interview... I want to be on that call pretty please.
EATING
Biscuit from Blacksmith: I haven’t been here in years and had to try the biscuit again because, according to my notes, it’s one of the best I’ve ever had. I’m happy to announce that Blacksmith has retained this title. Flaky, buttery, perfectly crumbly- it's everything you want in a biscuit. I had it with butter and a strawberry jam. Also, I did work there for the first time, and it was quite pleasant. Great music, accessible outlets and very sweet baristas that were attentive!
PLAYING
Remi Wolf Zane Lowe interview: I loved the comments from Zane’s other crew members- they had such witty bits. Her new album Big Ideas is one that I keep circling back to for a full listen. I haven’t quite placed what I love about it but there’s something really special that makes it one of those albums you have to listen to all the way through. It’s the same magic that CMIGL and HMHAS and many of my other favorites have. Remi is such a candid interviewee and I have a lot of appreciation for her and her music.
Nara and Lucky Smith couples’ interview: Nara and Lucky are so sassy with each other. They know each other so well, like almost uncomfortably well, but they seem to really appreciate specific things about each other. To be loved is to be seen, as the saying goes. I’m loving the Western shirt on Lucky, he looks great. I won’t even go into the sexual energy between them because we all know how evident it is. However, Taryn did inform me of the couples’ quiz curse so let’s see if anything unfolds with them after this interview.
OBSESSING
True Religion denim bag: I saw a girl wearing this bag in Blacksmith and I fully stopped what I was doing to stare at her. This particular design is sold out but there’s another denim bag on True Religion’s website that I also really love. However, the available bag online is a little small, better for going out rather than every day, so I’m hesitant. I’ve been liking bigger bags- anything that reminds me of the massive, slouchy ones my mom used to carry in middle and high school.
This outfit on Pinterest: Something about this outfit has me in a chokehold for no reason. Actively scouring thrifts to find the perfect sized button down to crop so I can recreate the look. I think this yellow color is delish, but I would also love an orange or light green shade.
RECOMMENDING
Fred again rooftop set: Listened to this rooftop set while editing and applying for jobs. When I’m trying to get work done, house and techno are the only music I can listen to. Seeing him in person is definitely on my bucket list.
TREATING
Everything: I think I found my birthday dress! We’ll see if I actually end up wearing it this weekend because I’ll hopefully find some good stuff while shopping in New York. I also got a new concealer and concealer brush- I’ve been investing in good makeup recently. Truthfully, with impending festivities, I’m treating myself to everything.
