Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T 8/7
I forget if I’ve fully mentioned this in a post, because it’s all I can think about and I’m trying not to be annoying about it, but I’m going to NYC for six days for my birthday! I leave on the 14th and words cannot describe how geeked I am for the trip, my birthday, and all the incoming reunions. It’s all been meticulously planned out in a very detailed itinerary that unfortunately confirms that, while on the most mellow side, I am still indeed type A. Unrelated, I just finished Invincible! So gory but so good and the last few episodes were really emotional. Impatiently awaiting season 3 which comes out sometime next year.
READING
Role Model Nylon interview: He talks about his ended relationship with such love. It's so admirable and honestly, if I was Emma seeing all the kind press and deeply vulnerable songs he’s written about me (including one titled my middle name?!), I would have circled back. I know breakups happen for a reason but wow, the songs to come out of it are nostalgia central.
Venezuela’s recent election: I was seeing videos of Venezuelan protests on my Tiktok and wanted to get more context on the election fraud Nicolas Maduro committed. According to the article, since 2014 7.7 million Venezuelans have fled the country since Maduro’s initial election in 2013. However, many ally presidents from different South American countries are calling for the president to release the official vote count. This girl @natashacloset on Tiktok who is from Venezuela, but now lives, in the US made a really detailed, informative video on it as well.
Palestinians in the Olympics: This article made me so, so emotional. To know that so many Palestinian athletes have been murdered and the eight who qualified were living and training in horrible conditions in a decimated country- their resilience and courage knows no bounds.
EATING
Snickerdoodle cookie from Pavon Coffee Den: I’m extremely picky about cookies and this one hit the spot. My top two favorites are brown sugar cookies (essentially, chocolate chip cookies without chocolate chips) and snickerdoodle cookies. I’m not much of a baker but I think I’m going to attempt to make snickerdoodle cookies from scratch soon.
Shrimp tacos: If there are two things I’m known for cooking wise, it’s my rosa pasta and my shrimp tacos. These tacos could cure diseases, I swear it.
PLAYING
Role Model’s full Zane Lowe interview: Just more about the album! The more I listen, the more I like it. I also appreciate any interview Tucker does because he’s a great storyteller and conversationalist.
The Nanny: The way I fly through episodes of this show should be studied. I’ve never been hooked so quickly on a show. Fran Fine, you are my icon.
Challengers episode on Upstairs Neighbors podcast: This episode had me in tears because every feral thought they discussed about Challengers- I’ve already thought or said (likely to Audrey or Sophia). I need to watch Challengers again.
OBSESSING
Gray/silver clothing and accessories: I’m a gold girl at heart, but as of late I’ve been really loving silver jewelry and gray/silver clothing. I just made silver little shorts and a matching cowl neck halter top that I really love. I also love gray and green together which is great because I own a lot of green clothing and accessories. It’s such a fun summer combo that I feel like I don’t see super often.
RECOMMENDING
NYC Tourism website for Restaurant Week info: NYC Restaurant week started on July 22nd and goes through August 18 for most places but up to Labor Day for others. This website has filters by borough, price of set menu, how many courses, type of cuisine etc. I will say, a lot of the options within the fixed menus aren’t the most exciting dishes the restaurants usually have so the deals don’t always equal the monetary value, but it doesn’t hurt to take a look.
Muscle wiki for new exercises: I’ve been in a good gym routine all summer and have been increasing the weight of the exercises I’m already doing. However, my knowledge is relatively limited when it comes to thinking up new exercises for specific body parts, so this website has been helpful! You can click on a body part, and it gives you four exercises which you can filter based on level of advancement and the equipment you have.
TREATING
Milani original setting spray: I haven’t used a setting spray in years and this drugstore one came at the recommendation of many videos. I feel like it’s always hard to tell whether or not a setting spray has an effect on my makeup staying power but oh well. I’m yet to use it but after a week or so, if I feel like it makes my makeup last, I’ll recommend it in my next weekly report.
