Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T 8/26

I just have to say that YouTube is my favorite platform of all time. I was so excited to get back from NYC and see that so many of the people I’m subscribed to had posted, which meant that I had many videos to catch up on. My algorithm is trained so well, and I've discovered new artists that have become pillars of my music rotation, found great fashion inspiration from different creators, learned about random topics and fashion history, watched random free movies from the late 90s and early 2000s- you name it, YouTube has it. This is my PSA to spend more time on YouTube!!! If you’re going to rot on any social media, it’s the best one to do it.

This is a Sabrina themed report because Short n’ Sweet is out and all I’m thinking about.

READING

  1. Jude becomes official LV partner: This partnership makes so much sense, and the clues have been there for a while. I really like how he was styled in this interview and his iconic pose in the suit- cherry on top. Now that the partnership is official, I’m hoping we see more fashion content from Jude but with soccer back in season, I’m sure the moments will still be few and far between.

  2. Chappell Roan for Interview Magazine: This was so good. Bowen was a great person to interview her because they’re familiar enough with each other that Chappell was comfortable but not too comfortable to where it feels like nothing of substance was said. Bowen is fangirling throughout but in a way that’s encouraging and loving and validating. Love knowing she would do a cameo but not fully go into acting (she originally got into music wanting to really be an actress?) It’s crazy how things work out. It’s interesting to hear her philosophy on life and how she’s navigating the upcoming year because she said right now, she’s in a phase of saying no and rarely saying yes whereas I usually say yes and rarely say no. The styling for this interview is magnificent. The shoots this year done by Interview Magazine have just further solidified that a goal of mine is to style for them. The images of her eating the lipstick are fucking fantastic and so Chappell but also they make my stomach churn because I know they taste nasty.

  3. Sabrina Carpenter for PAPER: The imagery for this shoot is really confusing because some of the photographs are of Sabrina, looking great of course, and others are of this random guy in a 70s bowl cut and black suit. She delves into more of her musical inspirations and why she’s so comfortable with genre-hopping, which I as a listener deeply appreciate. Fun interview, I’m just confused about the format.

EATING

  1. NYC eats: NYC has one of the best food scenes in the world so it’s not a surprise I was eating well while I was there! Of course, these photos don’t capture all the goodies I devoured, just the ones I got good pictures of. Pictured, I have A) shawarma from Spice Brothers B) lamb dumplings from Xi’ans Famous Foods C) breakfast platter from Suited D) salmon and egg scramble from 12 Chairs E) croissant, scone and iced americano from Librae Bakery.

  2. La Lucha: Before my trip, my mom, brother and I went to La Lucha in the Houston Heights for an August birthday dinner! I think I’ve mentioned this before, but my mom and I have the same birthday and my brother’s birthday is August 30. We were thoroughly confused by the decor and menu because the place was listed as a Southern restaurant, but the decor was modern-farmhouse style. The paintings were also like old style portraits and a lot of it just didn’t make sense. However, the food was delicious! The oysters were great and the chimichurri shrimp I had was fantastic, but my mom’s chicken was the star of the show.

  3. Berry Chantilly cake from Whole Foods: I think this cake has saved lives. It’s the perfect, lightweight option that pleases so many. I wanted a tiramisu cake but unfortunately, they only do slices, so this was the perfect backup option.

PLAYING

  1. The Dare for Apple Music: Wanted to hear more from him. I feel like Zane didn’t do a good job of letting him finish his thoughts. Harrison has a lot of different music inspirations which is really cool and generally seems like an interesting guy. I'm also still not over the fact that he isn’t British, and he said he doesn’t like British people? Can’t believe he hates his own people…

  2. Role Model interview: He has to be the most unserious person on this planet. This sounds weird but the more I look at his face, the more I feel like I don’t know what he looks like. This is like the third interview of his I’ve watched or read that he mentions Kacey Musgraves Golden Hour- the dedication to that album is so real. Learning that he cosplayed Elvis as a child adds up.

  3. MILF on Netflix: This movie is French and so stupid but also great and even a little wholesome. The men in it are gorgeous and for a silly rom com, they managed to make the women somewhat multi-dimensional. Not in a way that’s fully thought out, but you can see the effort and it’s fun to make assumptions to fill in the missing pieces. However, take notice how this is in the playing section and not the recommended section... entertaining nonetheless but truly should only be watched on a plane.

  4. Sabrina’s Chicken Shop: I’m envious of how quick-witted Sabrina is. She looks ridiculously good in this interview. One thing about a chicken shop date, I’m going to be giggling, swinging, kicking my feet. Between this and Billie’s, the girls are taking it this year by a mile.

OBSESSING

  1. Good Graces by Sabrina: Avoidant attachments- this is our theme song! This is a song I need injected into my veins. I was midway through my leg work out on Thursday when this song came on and I felt invincible.

  2. Austin Butler in his hometown: I perpetually see him as a scruffy dog, specifically the male dog from Lady and the Tramp, and it just works so well for him. He’s such an intentional speaker and I always appreciate when celebrities share details about their personal life and childhood because it’s not our business, but it’s always nice to get a peek into why they are the way they are. Him doing hopscotch towards the end of the video absolutely killed me.

RECOMMENDING

  1. Charli xcx Ibiza Boiler Room: Listened to this set while doing work and I was getting hype but simultaneously focused. Charli is in underwear and screaming the whole time- her energy is contagious. Alex Chapman and Zoe Gitter remix Sexxy Red and it fit perfectly into the EDM tracks which I would have never expected. Of course, The Dare makes an appearance and kills it as expected. Just such a good set and I so wish I could’ve been there.

  2. Sabrina for Apple Music: I love that this is almost an hour long. I forget she’s only 25. It was nice to learn more about her, her childhood, what drove her to create this album etc. Zane is in extreme fangirl mode during this interview but honestly fair. This has been an absolutely insane summer for music, and I feel blessed to live in a music time such as this.

  3. @thirstygallerina on IG: Of course, with six days in NYC, I had to tap back into the accounts that had me attending fun, free events and getting goodies last summer. One of them is this Instagram account that will post all the art gallery openings happening in the city, usually Thursday-Saturday, but sometimes on other days. They’re free 99% of the time and almost always have free alcohol. It’s a great way to casually see local art and get a couple free drinks! Sophia and I went to one last Thursday before dinner and filled up on boxed wine and an interpretive dance performance.

TREATING

  1. Everything: Guys, it was my birthday. Therefore, I was treating myself out of the wazoo. Bakery treats, a new ring from Artists and Fleas in Williamsburg, Ubers, eating out constantly- you name it. The whole trip was a treat and now I’m tightening the belt on my spending until my job is secured so if this section starts to feel a little scant, that’s why!
